Can fish withstand a certain amount of ammonia?

Not sure if this is general or setup/filtration.

If you have an adult fish that is given a large feeding every 3 days, then wouldn't ammonia levels spike after the feeding? Say you have 4x turnover. Then in your best case scenario, it will take 15 minutes to filter out ammonia. During those 15 minutes(probably longer in a realistic scenario), aren't your fish being exposed to ammonia?

If your fish is eating all the food then no it wouldn't spike until it pooped. Fish can survive short exposures to ammonia and I doubt the amount that a feeding every three days produces would be a noticeable amount.
