Can for 250 gallon

Fluval FX5 is a monster and about $400, but it will keep your tank sparkling clean since it cleans up to 500 gallons!

Just grab an FX5 off of Ebay. I picked one up for $235 or so.

With normal aquarium heaters... Your tank isn't as big as you think it is, there are a lot of stuff out there for these size tanks. I would start worrying about how to heat a tank and still be cost effective after about 2k gallons. I would say 750 watts would heat your 250 gallon tank.

Eheim 2262 would work too.In line heaters are nice, and don't clutter up the inside of your tank. But heating shouldn't be a problem.A couple of 500 watt would work fine.

How would you suggest heating a tank that size? sorry for getting off topic

I would look at titanium heaters with controllers. I have the ETCI-1R controller and 1,000W heater from Jehmco.com. You would probably be able to go lower on the wattage base on room temperature and such.
