I have a 55 gallon with 2 4 inch sun catfish and a 1 1/2 inch jack dempsey. Can I add a convict or will it eventually be overstocked?

Thanks for any replies

For the time being it would be fine since all the fish are small, in my quick research about Sun Catfish they will outgrow a 55g tank though. Planet Catfish lists adult size at over 17", far to big for a 55g tank. The JD will also want a larger tank once it's grown, the shallow depth of a 55g just isn't enough in my opinion.

I've yet to see a sun catfish remotely close to 17" the biggest I've seen is 8-9". And they grow very slow after 6".

I think eventually you will need to get a bigger tank. For now it won't be bad while they are small. So it all depends if you will be able to upgrade or not.

What if I keep the jack in the tank by himself when he's full grown?

that should be ok...........i once kept a tsn in a 55 gal for a little over 2 years. i know i was inexperienced at that time.
