Can I convert a used saltwater filter to a fw tank?

I have a killer deal on a Rena XP4 cannister filter. However, it has been used for the past 2 years on a 75 gallon saltwater tank. Could I just hook it up to my freshwater tank? My thinking is that saltwater shouldn't hurt my fish in my 120g. (check out my sig below) But, I could be wrong. Any experience on the matter or any advice. (I could always remove the parts of the filter and wash them off, but what do you think?)

just wash it and maybe get some new media and it will be fine.

I'm doing the same thing. Should be fine. Clean it out real well. I even used a little vinegar too.

Nice, just rinse it all real well. I wouldn't throw out the media, you can claen it too. What type media idi you get with it?
