Hi I have 3 large fish in my tank. My arowana recently died and my peacock bass died today. I notice breathing problems and red gills. There is one more bass left, and it too has breathing problems. If it dies, I want to reuse the tank, so can I just kill the disease by rinsing out the tank and leaving it to dry?

Have to agree you should have done a 50 percent water change at the first sign of heavy breating. If your bass is still alive do one now and check water parameters. You should be able to save it then do another 25 percent change in a day. How big is your tank because it did'nt sound overstocked if the tank is big enough. Also how new is the setup maybe your filter and bacteria were not mature enough for the bio load you put on it.

Sounds like poor water quality killed your fish. To clean your tank , I use bleach and rinse the tank a lot. If it was water quality that killed your fish you will have the same problem with the new fish you get. If you don't have an API test kit, you should go get one. This is the most important purchase a responsible fishkeeper can make. Sorry about your fish.

agree with poor water quality

Sure drying the tank will solve your "problem" for a bit, I'd say you need to figure out what's happening. Either medicate, or most likely its a water problem like previously stated. You prob need more bio in there
