I just bought a python siphon last week. I have a big garden of fruit trees and want to use my old fish water to water them (seems like a waste to me to pour it down the sink.) Can I hook the python up to a submersible pump in a trash can in my garden and let it siphon out like that? I never bought a pump before and never used a python before so I don't know if they'll fit.

You could just use the python attached to the faucet to get the siphon started, then disconnect the hose and throw it by your plants and just gravity drain your tank as you gravel vac. Or you could put the python attachment outside near your plants and run your garden hose to the part where the faucet would normally attach. The pump and trash can idea sounds too cumbersome and adds the unnecessary expense of buying the pump.

If the tank it higher than where the trees are theres no need for a pump.Just throw the end of the hose by the trees.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll try this today.

Do you mean that I attach a garden hose to the faucet part of the python?
I think I would start the siphon the same way -- by attaching the python valve to the faucet to get a siphon, then disconnect the faucet part. Then I would attach that faucet part to the garden hose right? Thanks again for all the suggestions so far.

Yes, I mean attach the garden hose to the faucet part. The python creates suction from the water flowing through it, it doesn't matter whether it comes from a faucet, or your garden hose. There's no need to use a faucet first, then the hose. Just use the hose to begin with, and leave it outside near your plants. You will be watering your plants with a mixture of water from the hose and the water getting sucked from your tank.
