Can I do this with Eco Complete?

I have a newly planted 315G tank with a sand substrate. While messing with the tank today some pieces of dark gravel fell into the tank on top of the sand. I, meaning my wife, liked the way it looked and decided to add some gravel to the sand to dress it up. Can I sprinkle Eco Complete onto the sand and mix it around a bit?

what every you do just don't do the salt and pepper thing(having white and black substrate mixed)..

I dont want the salt/pepper look, just want to add some character to the sand and figured eco would serve both purposes. I know theres a fine line between charater and oh my good what have i done!

Black and white mixed doesn't look very good. Try flourite; it's red/brown so it should look nicer with the tan sand. Price is about the same too.
