With a H.O.B filter can i put the $ store sponges in instead of that carbon crap they give u?

i did it. i have 4 $ scrubbies as my bio section and i jus make my own filter floss for mechanical filtration.

Kk, should i put the floss on the top or bottom of the filter? like should the water run through the filter floss than thensponges or sponges than floss.

It should pass thru the filter floss first if that's what your using for mech filtration.

I have some hob 350's stuffed full of scrubbies it works well i threw out the regular filter cartridge.

No reason, i put them in water nothing came out so it looks fine. I'm gona use as many sponges as i can, than i will put the filter floss in along with it.

reason for doing this : just nicer cleaner water

you can use sponges from an AC110,........they basically last forever, the flow good, and have a lot of surface area.

Pot scrubbers are great in a wet dry application, but they arent as effective submersed IMO. For submersed media you would be better off with a good flowing sponge or biomax (or some other ceramic type media)

no need to wash the bio media if it gets real dirty just swish it real quick in a bucket of tank water
