I just got a sponge filter from my lfs and was wondering if I could put it in the sump of my Wet/Dry? I got the filter for free and would like to use it rather than have it sit around and take up space.

that's actually a good idea. It might not increase the capacity of your filter, but if you need to set up another tank in a hurry you already have a cycled filter. I keep biomedia in my sump just for that purpose.

Also, :welcome:

Think rallysman, if it's cycled it's working... :D

It will take alot longer to cycle being in the sump, but who's in a hurry.

Good idea. Make it so...

yea, I meant it may not be enough to make a big difference lol.... It will help even if it is on a small scale. I am becoming more and more fond of sponge filters.

So it would be a good idea? would it help keep the water in my sump clear? hopefully make the pump run more efficient.

&

Yep.

Your good to go

I have been using them in holding and hospital tanks for years which started quite by accident (necessity) when I needed to start a 20g hospital tank quickly and it worked so well I've used them ever since.

Keep us posted (& pix).
