I want to start off by saying that I have had fw rays before a few years ago. I rescued them from a pet store that sold them to me for 20 bucks each because they could not get them to eat. No wonder because they were in a 10 gallon tank. I had a spare 75 gallon sitting around with a sand bottom so I took them home. they were 2 motoro pups and I got them eating by offering earthworms and ghost shrimp. I had them for a few months before i was doing some tank maintenance and had an unexpected visitor stop by. My ignorance led to me leaving the top of the tank off while I talked to my friend. My cat took this opportunity to play with the top of the water. I did not know that litter was on her feet and i guess the combo of litter and cat urine completely killed off the whole system. I eventually lost the rays and have been scared to try ... until now...

I have no more cats... :irked:

anyway im wanting to use my 280 gallon long... can i house pups/ juvies in this for a while? I promise im not that irresponsible now and I know i deserve to get yelled at. Can I get back into it?

Plenty of room in a 280 for small rays.

Yeh a 280 is good for pups for sure...We all make mistakes and we learn from them just like I'm pretty sure you have so I wouldn't see why you couldn't house rays again..Umm what's the foot print of your 280?? What species of ray do u plan on keeping??

I will get the measurements tomorrow when the guy brings it. He said its a 7 foot tank. What species would you suggest with me just starting back out in rays?

well, today was a bust, literally. The guy was delivering the tank when it somehow got a crack and the back glass ended up cracking. he did refund my money so it was ok in my book, since he is the one that caused the crack due to improper loading. I did go on glass cages and find a 240 gallon ( 96 x 18 x 31 Tall ) for a reasonable price. the 300 will cost me over a grand so i am going with the somewhat smaller (still 8 foot) tank. I will keep you updated but its going to be a hellova ride building the stand.

Actually I decided on the 300 wide (96 x 30 x 25), I figured just spend the money and get what I really wanted anyway. Is that adequate?

Just a thought... when getting into BIG tanks, glass gets to be $$$. Look into fiberglass with an acrylic window. You'll cut your price in half.
