Just got my first pleco 2 days ago. They told me it was a clown pleco but judging from the pictures it isn't so.... I don't know the species? I'll try post some pictures. Anyway, I was wondering, Will the pleco feed off the flakes that land on the gravel or do you need to feed them special foods? Once a week I'll drop down a bit of cucumber for the pleco and the clown loaches but do I still need to feed them while having the cucumber down? Thanks

they'll eat the flakes.

and naw you dont have to feed em flakes while you feed cucumber.

As long as they are eating it doesnt really matter what you feed them. So of the types of plecos need a higher protein diet then other need hardly any protein. Get us some pics of the pleco you are asking about. Hypans need a protein diet not a vegetable diet

better off giving him veggies. and anything other then cucumbers.

I dropped in a piece of cucumber. Do you know if they'll eat the hard white bit? They've only been at the middle for a about an hour or 2 and they've eaten all of the middle.

Mine wont touch the white bit around the middle. They'll leave it till it turns to mush if i don't pull it, haha.
And if it's a Clown pleco, he'll need a more protein rich diet, as well as driftwood in the tank, in order to digest it all. They don't generally do too great with algae
