I have a chance to get a florida gar from my lfs. They have a 5 inch one. I will be bringing in a few of my fish to make room for it along wiht my silver aro. The fish will go from a 75 to a 150 in about 4 months. Then in about a year or 2 they will get a 180 or bigger. Could i make it work?

Start it in a smaller aquarium such as a 20 long or a 29 gallon then step it up to the 75 gallon when it gets a bit larger. Everything else sounds good to me except for housing it with the silver arowana which is generally recommended against in the majority of situations.

What else did you plan on housing it with?

pike cichlid, and jag

I'm not sure on the pike cichlid, but the jag will probably be way too aggressive with the gar, especially if it's the same size or larger. Generally, cichlids should be avoided as gar tankmates, but there are some cases of successful cohabitation of gars with them.

my jag will be added much later due to the fact that its only 2 inches, and my venny pike is a big puss

no im keeping the silver aro. I will attempt to keep both but i understand what can happen housing them together and will be careful that no fish comes to harm

Okay, then the jag/gar combination might work out; just be prepared for it to go wrong at any time, though.

Once again, this combination should be avoided if at all possible just to be safe, but it might work out for a short time or a long time if you are lucky.

Its the silver color of the aro that makes it a bad tankmate correct. I've seen many videos with the combo and with multiple gars with silvers

The silver colour contributes to it. Another reason that this combo is usually not advised is that arows can be aggressive. If it were to pick on the gar it can result in the gar breaking its back.
