Hey all, feel free to read that title in a Baptist preacher's voice.
So I am throwing this is general discussion because I've got a little mix of species in the tank I'm curious about.
So I want to know what temp everyone thinks would be a good setting here, because I hear mixed things.
The tank includes:
polys
CLs
featherfin cat
bush fish
odoe pike
African brown knife
I have it set currently to around 79 I believe, but was curious if lowering it a little would be advisable? I assume most of these fish are accustomed to high 70's/low 80's considering where they hail from, but I just thought I'd ask.

I have 79 in my poly and gar tank. I think it's comfy for both. So ya for me its 79

I let my tank hit 72 in winter.. the fish don't seem to mind and are just as active. Its all tropical with some cichlids.

Why winter temps for my tanks are kept around 72. Never had a problem

this is what I was thinking about, the colder months...hmmm maybe I'll lower it to like 75ish and see how they behave.

I believe fish experience a broad range of temperature in the wild. From sudden down pours flooding the waters where they live causing drastic temperature drops, to summer calm waters heated gradually to almost ambient temperature. Fish from lakes experience temperature changes just with the change in water depth. I think fish are way tougher than we give them credit...at least tough enough that we don't have to be super anal about keeping the temperature EXACTYLY 82°...exactly. ..always...exactly. When I first got into this hobby, I would monitor temperature like a hawk watches mice...any movement up or down. Now? I drain the tanks, fill them up and dump a bucket or two of medium to hot water in and usually hit my mark by a few degrees cool and call it good....seriously...of course I exagerate....hahah!!
