So I took this off the LFS' hands for $40 flat, he told me it was a black piranha. I asked him what species it was and he said "I don't do that latin stuff" lolol.

I have no reason to not assume this is a rhom, but I was wondering if it was a rare xingu variant, which would mean I got very lucky. Or if it's any of the other species.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It looks like a Diamond Rhom Varient. Xingus have a silver like body color with a yellow gill coating, and a humeral spot.Heres a pic of a Xingu.....

Well spotted DiXoN, have to say i didn’t see that until you mentioned it. Definably start fattening him up Drixonite. Keep the pictures rolling as he develops and slowly grows, looks like it is going to be a good looking monster in the future.

Yeah I have him on goldfish feeders right now, he's really just acclimating to the tank right now so not eating very much. I'll soon wean him off and get him on frozen shrimp and such.

Thanks guys.

its a rhom, and with out knowing where it was collected from that is all you will be able to tell. the only way to know if its a xingu is to know if thats where it was collected from. so you could ask the guy at the shop if he could find out the collection point. that would be the only to get the answer you are after
