its a 65 gallon tank (36 x 18 x 24h) with a fluval 406.

i wanna have a single oscar and a convict cichlid in there.. can i get away with it as far as stocking goes? im very good with water changes and always keep my nitrates under 20ppm, even if it required daily water changes, and i know convicts stay very small. what do you guys thnk?

In the long run the Oscar will probably get too big for that tank but the two should coexist without a problem. It could work for a while though.

I think it will work for a while... you will know when the o gets too big..

I love the dimensions of that 65, it is the one I have, In my opinion its far better than the 12 inch wide 55g tanks most of them end up in, and it should last for a while with an O..tank mates are iffy ..large 50% water changes more will be needed but its not the worst tank you could have him in for a while, but will probably need an upgrade later on.

I agree

Go for it it sounds fine. Typical MFK response is OMG BIGGER TANK. I kept a pair of oscars in a breeding tank that was 36"x24x"24" and they had plenty of room and they were happy healthy fish that bred for me many times
