I believe I may have figured out what's killing my fish. I fed them tonight and as one of the fish went after a piece of food as it grabbed the food, shook, and chewed I saw a bunch of what I first thought to be sand come out of its mouth. Found this very odd coming from an Armatus. I grabbed a net to fish some of this stuff which floated around much more then sand would. No luck, too small. Grabbed a breeder net and nabbed some. Appears to be eggs. Found a cluster of 5 stuck together. Camera can't get pics, too small. Am I indeed looking at the eggs of Dactylogyrus? Can someone help me out by confirming diagnosis and recommend course of action? I'm under the impression that Prazi is all I need, BUT seems the eggs are extremely tough to kill. Can someone recommend a dosing schedule? Prazi once a week for a month? Thanks so much for any assistance!!

Is that Gill flukes? or just another paracitic worm? eitherway well spotted.

Ive treated what I thought was Gillflukes on my tiger tank, in the past, with Kazuri Wormer Plus. It seemed to have worked. All heavy breathing stopped soon after. And appetite came back for fish.
But the RAYS were not happy during treatment and 1 of my motoros died a week after treatment. Cant be sure if it was an adverse reaction though, as thwe retic was completely fine.
The main ingredients is Flubendazole.
But you should treat ASAP with something.

Anyone else care to chime in?

I just dumped all the remaining Prazi I had in there last night. They almost seem a lil happier today. I have very nice Marbled Motoros in there so I would just rather use something proven ray safe like Prazi, that is IF it will even eradicate the eggs that is, or just time it so I redose after the eggs hatch.

Couldnt agree more,. U have lots of expensive rays in that tank /pond, cant remember which.

keep us posted. :)

You cannot verify the presence of flukes UNLESS you have a microscope for that. If you have not treated every stingray with prazi before especially if they are found to be prone to flukes, then treat them with prazi. Flukes are not really worms in that sense but they're still parasitic.

    • Remove carbon.
    • Add 2.5 milligrams per liter of water.
    • If you are using the powdered version, it is difficult to dissolve. Predissolve in tank water by shaking it up in a small container.
    • Dosing
Day 1 -- remove carbon, perform water change with vacuuming, and add Prazi to tank
      Day 2 -- add Prazi
      Day 3 -- do nothing
      Day 4 -- do nothing
      Day 5 -- do nothing
      Day 6 -- add Prazi
      Day 7 -- add Prazi
Day 8 -- normal partial water change with vacuuming
Day 14 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 21 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 28 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 35 - normal partial water change, add carbon, treatment is complete

Lupin,
IF fluke eggs can't be seen by the naked eye then am I seeing eggs from something else OR are the eggs visible? As far as the lil worm like squigglies I'm guessing those must be planaria?

Pics?

What foods did you use? This is in reference here.

If you really must know what killed your fish, you should have done a necropsy on the dead fish. Check the gills, abdominal wall and organs (once pried off). Take shots of them and post. If you refrigerated a dead fish in the last 24 hours, it may still be viable enough not to conclude decomposition and damage in the organs as the cause of death which could otherwise be inaccurate.

Just dose prazi there in the meantime while we figure out the exact cause. Here's the dosing schedule. Dose at 2.5mg per liter.

Day 1 -- remove carbon, perform water change with vacuuming, and add Prazi to tank
Day 2 -- add Prazi
Day 3 -- do nothing
Day 4 -- do nothing
Day 5 -- do nothing
Day 6 -- add Prazi
Day 7 -- add Prazi

Day 14 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 21 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 28 - normal partial water change, then add prazi
Day 35 - normal partial water change, add carbon, treatment is complete

Prazi doesn't seem to be working. Still seeing eggs. The eggs are about the same size as a grain of resteraunt style pepper, or grains of Estes sand. Actually kinda large. White in appearence and have found them floating clumped together in small numbers. What could they possibly be? They are definetly visible to the naked eye. They get knocked out when the fish eat. Somebody has had to have seen something like this before. Meds aren't readily available here so I need to get this diagnosed so that I can attempt to track proper meds down. Thank you soooo much to anyone that can shed some light on this...
