Can I have a black sand substrate in a RD tank? Would their kick be too powerful that it would kick the sand up and create a sandstorm?

my 150 gallon houses a 6" red devil and a 8" Trimac. Yes when they dart or fight sometimes you see some sand kick up but not that much to make your tank dirty for hours or something like that. It's just a little kick up of sand and it settles in a few minutes. I would recomend putting some sponges on the filter intakes to block sand going in the intakes.

well what kind of filters are you using?????

If its a canister filter most of them have there own brand name ones you can buy. If its a Aqua Clear or most power filters, just by some of the aqua clear 70 sponge, cut it in half and cut a hole in the middle for the intake to go in. Put it on kinda like a sock.

u could use but be sure to add some large rock to make them feel safer.
