I was thinking of picking up a Festae. I've never kept one of these amazing fish in my life so I was wondering if once could live in a 60G (female). You can see the tank mates in my sig, as for the single grouramis he will be moved shortly but everything else I was hoping to keep with the Festae if it will work. What I'm hoping for you guys is to give me some tips and if my idea will work!

Also I don't know if this is a female but I was told it was one, I'm looking for one with this coloring. My question was is this type common? What I am looking to pay for it in Florida?

It wouldn't be ideal as female Festae will get about 12"...although it takes them a long time to get there. I'm sure by the time your Festae is that big, she would be so awesome that you would be more than happy to upgrade for her. What are the tank dimensions if you don't mind me asking? Also, you already seem to be stocked to the max in that tank.

Like the others said, a 60 would be decent for a growout, but not for life, especially with your stock. If I were you, I'd get that BGK out of there as well...those things get huge.

As far as where to get them: I know Florida Tropical Fish Direct has some small 1" for $7.50 a pop if you don't mind having fish shipped. I've used them before and would recommend them.

Thanks for all the replies, my Bichirs got a little rough with my Tetras and my groumi so now all I have is:
4 Bichirs (all 3-5")
2 Ropes (one is 5-6" the other is 7-8")
1 little Convict (1-1.5")
1 Yellow Lab (1.5-2")
1 BGK, he minds to himself so unless the Festae would be aggressive to him I have no worries of him being aggressive to the Festae. (3-4")

I said all this hoping that it would change your mind of the tank being over stocked which I know it probably is but all I have is bottom dwellers and I would really enjoy a Festae to dominate the mid section of the tank.

I do plan on upgrading but sadly not soon (a few months to a 100G)
The dimensions of the tank are 48 3/8 x 12 7/8 x 23 7/8

With the stock you have now I think you should wait for the upgrade. Now you have a goal you can shoot for. :) Remember when you upgrade, get the biggest tank with the biggest footprint you can afford...and it 's still never big enough. So go even bigger.

It's nearly impossible to visually sex a Festae until they get around 4", even then it can be iffy at times. A Festae of this size might be rough on some tankmates. It may be best to wait until you have your larger tank. I think you should lessen that stock too. Including the possible Festae you will have eight fish that can reach 10"-12". Hopefully your Con will be a female too so that will save you some space and end any possibilities of the Festae and Con breeding.

Thanks for your tips anyone, once I upgrade I'll let you guys know.
