right now i have a very peaceful silver gar, once i get a bigger tank & some things to monitor the chemical balance id really like to get another aro, but both being top dwelling fish will this cause a problem?

You have to try it if the gar is aggressive make sure the aro is bigger. I have gars in with my aro they occasionally mix it up a bit during feeding

The problem is more likely to be the Silver gar getting eaten, as they don't grow very large...

that is not a true gar,its a characin and the aro should be bigger

yes its a hujeta altho all the fish shops call them silver gars (which i know they are not), hes the most non-aggressive meat-eating fish ive ever seen in my life (next to my roommates coy who will eat 20 feeder fish in a matter of minutes like a big orange jackoff)-i kept him with an oscar for months & they were fine altho the oscar eventually got too territorial & i had to get rid of him due to him nipping at the gar a few times a day.

im not worried about the gar attacking the aro, because if its half as big as the gar he will leave it alone no problems, im worried about the aro beating on the gar. also if size ever became a problem i would seperate them, but only if the aro got close to big enough to eat the gar who is currently 6" long & gaining now that i have him in a bigger tank.

p.s. dont put small fish in with a coy, or they will be gone in 15 minutes flat. trust me. i know.

no you cant keep that hujeta with your aro, hujetas grow really really slow and the aro will be twice the hujeta's size in no time and the hujeta will be dinner.;)
get rid of the hujeta and keep the aro. :D

never!! i love my hujeta even if he is afraid of everything, im ridin this pony till she drops!

also the size thing doesnt concern me too much, i intend for this fish to be a good 9 inches before i even mess with getting an aro, & when size becomes too much of a factor i will put them in separate tanks.

my silver goes through phases where it attacks everyone in the tank except the big cats...my florida gets the brunt of it...i wouldn't recomend the silver gar in with an aro...i have one in with my africans though gets alone great...thats an idea for you put the silver gar in a diff. tank with other cool fish, then put an aro in a big tank with some real gars;) then you will have the best of all worlds:headbang2
