I have been wanting an arowana but I'm not sure if it would be alright in my tank. I have a couple of viejas, a red devil, a trimac, some cutteri's, silver dollars, and a true parrot cichlid. The tank is a 300 gallon, 96x30x25.

If so how many arowana's could I keep. I have read different opinions. Some people say only one arowana, some people say it's okay to keep more than one as long as there are more or less than two.

Thank you very much. My lfs just called and told me that they could have a 7" silver for me tomorrow for $50. I told them to get it. :)

you could definitely keep an aro. altho id only go with 1 unnless you plan to upgrade in the future. a silver would be best with your current stocklist.
:iagree:

Silver or black would be best..

Its ok until it reaches 30". Then its going to have a tough time turning. Might have to upgrade later. Its not really the length thats the issue, its the width when dealing with arowanas.

But your darn close my friend. About 6" off from the standard requirement of 36".

yea get 1 upgrade in 2 years or so

IMO the tank you have listed would be fine for your silver, probably for life. Most likely the silver will reach 30plus inches. Even if it were to get 36" it would not have a hard time turning in a 30" tank. If the silver ever did get that big you'll then have to decide whether an ungrade is needed.

What size are the cichlids that you currently have? Personally I would not recommend putting any silver under 10" with cichlids.

The black belt is about 10", the others are still smaller. The Giant Gourami is about 18" but he is supposed to be adopted on Thursday.
