Can I keep an Oscar with a Bleekeri

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I kept an Oscar and Bleekeri together, amongst other fish in a 240 gal (6ft x 3ft). The Bleekeri kept a small area as his space, and the O wafted around. They did not bug each other at all. Both were between the 11 and 12 inch mark. Really nice fish. I used to have two Bleekeri, but the dominant one would relentlessly bully the other and I had to rehome him. Fine with the other cichlids though.

Yup, nothing less than 6. An LFS had a bleekeri turn in and it murdered every cichlid already in the 4 foot 135g tank, and then wouldn't allow any new comers to live, no matter how much larger they were. The LFS owner tried to sell it to me.

I think your best would be to introduce your Oscar and Bleekeri at the same time, as Juveniles. Let them grow up together. That is if they are still Juveniles?

I think it should be fine.
Just watch them, and keep in mind that cichlids have their own characters and personality. Some might be chilled and peaceful, others may be unhinged and murderous.
Watch them grow up together, keep them well fed, and provide each one with a "territory" or type of refuge they call their own if they want too.

Im afraid I don't know much about Dempsey's. Never kept them before and don't know too much about how they co exist with others.
