ideally i have 2 breeding pairs
1m 1f JD
1m 1f Convict

can i put all 4 fish in 1 tank and they be ok maybe evan spawn??

its a 2.5ft x 2ft x 1.5ft tank

there might be too much aggression but you could try it maybe...

if no why not.

aggression? tank space? what

it would really save me space not having another tank and i would like to breed both these fish

I have kept an adult JD pair with an adult Con pair in a 75 gal without too many problems. Each pair had a spawning site on opposite ends of the tank. It was common to see the two males flaring and displaying in the middle of the tank but the pairs actually fought amongst each other as much as they did with each other. Both pairs spawned, I removed the fry within 10 days or so free swimming to be used as feeders in other tanks. If I did not remove the fry I would expect much more potentially harmful aggression.

I do believe that the 4' length was critical to my success. When one pair had fry the other pair stayed hidden and vise versa. Having had many pairs of medium sized Cichlids I just don't think they would tolerate tankmates as cloase as they would be forced to be in a 2.5'x2' tank.

Honestly, I wouldn't even keep an adult JD in a 2.5' x 2' tank. The long term effects are likely to create the humpbacked spine shape for the Dempsey, which is unfortunatly somewhat common.

Thanks very much for the information there thats really helped me out

the 2.5foot tank is just what i have spare right now, or a 2foot and a couple of 1footers,

so i guess ill just put the 2 jack dempseys in the tank on there own for now
