I have a hw304b filter on my 125 gallon tank. I am thinking about getting a second one. Would that be a good thing. Or am I ok with just one. Thanks

only way you can ever over filter is if they make so much water current your fish have to fight to stay in place. ^_^

So get a second filter or is one good

Aside from having too much flow for your fish, you can't "over-filter" in the sense that the nitrifying bacteria will only grow relative to the amount of ammonia produced by your fish, not the amount of media you provide. Flow rates aside, you will eventually get to the point where all you are doing is wasting money for no improvement in water quality. I'm not familiar with the filter you have, and have no idea about the stock or feeding of your tank, so can't comment on whether another filter will be a good investment in your case.

Didn't give us enough info to really be able to answer the question. In most situations however, you can't really overfilter.

Moved to setup and filtration.

If you're not having any water quality issues...then you don't need a 2nd filter ("If it ain't broke...don't fix it!").;)

Another thing to think about is a 2nd filter will provide a backup in case of failure of the main filter. You could just add a HOB type filter like an AC110 or something similar.

But if your water parameters are in check now, an extra filter can't really make them be more in check.
