I just bought a 3 inch dorado and there was another one but they were seperated. i have had an 11" dorado that killed my pbass but never have had 2. Since they are small do you think i could get away with having 2 in my 75 until i move them into my 200gal?

ps. hes the only fish in the tank currently and seems scared so i wanted to get him a tankmate

Yes it can be done, But....

Usually it works well if there is a larger number. 1 on 1 means one is always the target. I did have two that initially when small I kept seperated, I put then together at about 10" in a 180G. one became the boss with the other always cowering in the corner. The dominant fish usually rammed the other everytime he went near him. With the addition of other large fish things seemed to settle, I added a big female Mannie Cichlid and a Fowleri Cat.

I guess if I was doing it again I would do it. Keep an eye on it and add something else when required. A couple of brycon would be cool.

wait on bbc earth it showed dorados hunting brycons in a pack, so does it mean dorados are naturally schooling?
Doesn't this also mean that other comparable characins like armatus and gatf/vatf also shouldnt be kept with brycons/silver dollars?

i had 3 Franky Dorados that I kept in a community tank (180g) from 3" all the way to 13". Can it be done yes, but I believe they do better either by themselves or 3 or more. With that being said all individual specimens are different. The only reason I don't have them now is because I didn't have a tank big enough to support them and the other fish for life, lol.

Possible but not wise! Any number other than 2 in my experience..
I just uploaded 3 videos for you to see for yourself some of my present and past dorado tanks and experiences..But after compiling it all I was just told that because I'm a new member I have to do 6 post etc before I can do so and then wait for two days to be able to continue.
I try again for you then if you'd like. Sorry

A duo would be a very bad idea.

A large group would be a much more successful venture.

I am Keeping a group of 5 for the past two and half years with success, grown em from 2.5" to 11-13".
