Can I put a plywood panel in a glass tank?

I know it's backward but, can i put a 3/4" panel on a cracked pane on my 75 gallon? I would think it could be done if i seal the wood all around with epoxy and then silicone it to the broken panel and strip the seals on the rest of the tank and reseal. What do you think? Has it been done?

I wouldn't, LFS here in NJ sells new 75's for $99.
If it's the side panel maybe worth fixing with glass.
