can i put house plants in my tanks?

I guess that depends on what you mean put them in? like submerge them? unlikely, but if you mean immerse them, then its possible. However any plant that has soil based root structures that is moved to an immersed environment will have to grow all new roots, and will get almost no nutrients during this time.

I tried this with Yucca Plants, and only 1 survived.

I am sure some of our plant guys would have better answers.

I have spider plants, bamboo and pothos in mine

I've found that a LOT of plants die rapidly when submerging just roots. Its the same as over-watering. Every single standard potted plant I have tried has died from over-watering. The only plant I have found to work, roots submerged, have been reeds or bamboo types. With most bamboo type, I have found that you absolutely must keep the leaves OUT of the water or the plant dies.

+2 pothos btw... good lord they grow fast! I dont refer to these as standard plant... they are more like super-plants, but need 12ish hours of light a day.
