I recently got sand for my fish tank, i put the sand in and its settling, but the tank is really cloudy still. I separated my fish and put them into a separate bucket for the time being, i am wondering when is it safe to put them back in the tank? I was going to put them in when the tank cleared up because i thought id only be an hour or so (20 minutes on the sand bag). Its now been 2 hours and im started to get worried about the fish in the bucket, they all look very stressed and i dont want this move to kill any of them...
Is it safe to put them back in? even though its still very cloudy?
I know it sounds kinda dumb but id rather be safe then sorry!
thanks for the input :)

Yes, along as you didn't clean your filter... I just added more sand to one of my tanks with the fish still in the tank(i can't see the other side of the tank). It's just like a big storm i'n the wild..

Ummmm you should either have washed the sand or bought high quality sand. Too late for that do lots of water changes, and add water clarifier it will filter out quickly, just keep cleaning your filter it will clog quickly

The cloudiness shouldn't hurt the fish. Also, is there any sort of aeration in the bucket? An air stone would make the fish more comfortable

Just think of it as a storm in the amazon or something...The substrate always gets mixed up and creates cloudy water. Fine for the fish and it should clear up completely in a couple of days

yah thats true! just before i put gravel in with my fish and it posioned my tank somehow :\ i dont want that to happen this time so i was double checking! thank you

Ever look at the water fish normally live in? Rivers are full of silt and mud and are by no means as clear as our fish tanks. As long as you don't throw sand directly at fish they will be fine.

As long as you do not mind putting them in a cloudy tank you can put them in now.
