I have 2 Ac110's on 75 gallon I was thinking about setting them up independently one for Bio, one as mechanical filter. I am plannning to add a canister or sump down the road . How would you set up the 110's ?
2 sponges and filter floss in one, and all bio max in the second ?

AC110's can easily be used as a dedicated bio-filter. Simply put a sponge pre-filter on the end of the intake tube and fill the filter with your bio media of choice.

However, I usually go the other route. I use my canisters for bio and my AC110's (with 2 sponges) as mechanical due to the high flow rate through them.

Good luck with your tank.

I think canisters are better for bio, simply b/c they are a PITA to clean, compared to a HOB.

You need something to trap the large waste before it gets to the bio-media. Or it will just clog up and be unuseful. I would run 1 sponge and 2 bags of bio in each.
