can i turn an extra 10gal into a sump for 55gal?

already have a decent HOB filter for our 55. was wondering if we could take an extra 10gal tank we have and turn it into a sump filter for our 55?

although i think i'm far more interested in doing a bigger one... can you link me anything that really shows how to do the rubbermaid tote type stuff?
