I bought a saltwater setup I'm converting to freshwater, and one of the equipment in the setup is a chemical filter? can I use it in my freshwater tank or should I scrap it? Also can I used the crush coral if I let it sterilize in vinegar for a couple days? Thank you!

Yes, you can use a chemical filter in freshwater. You can fill it with carbon, ammo chips, or other chemical media. You can also fill it with biological media if you like.
As to the crushed coral, just rinse it well in fresh water.

bear in mind the crushed coral will likely impact your water chemistry... if you're keeping fish from soft acid water probably best nit to use it!

Ian is right. Crushed corals are not appropriate for setups that require soft acidic conditions. They will do the complete opposite to your water chemistry. If you plan to do Rift Valley setups, it will work perfectly.

Whats your Ph out of the tap, what are the fish? Depending on your tap PH, and your fish you may be better off not messing with it all. If it isnt too drastic its always better to allow the fish to condition itself to the water condition, then messing with all the time which will only stress the fish out, and lead to being a lot less healthy, not to mention death, but hard to say w/o ph reading, and fish wanted to keep.

the tap comes out at around 7.6, the fish I'm going to be transferring over are a fahaka puffer, texas and convict cichlid hybrid, and 2 five star generals from my 150 gallon. Going to try to move all the water over.
