Also going to paint the wood trim black. Can I use any type of paint or do you guys have a recommendation??

There are 'no-prep' plastic paints available from most chain hardware stores. However, these tend to flake after about a year.

The best way to paint the plastic tank trim, with a long-lasting finish, is by doing the following.

>The plastic needs to be cleaned thoroughly with alcohol to remove any age resins and oils.
>Apply a plastic conditioner to the plastic (acts like a chemical wet-sand).
>Paint on a plastic binding primer (helps the paint adhere more surely to the piece)
>Paint with your color choice of enamel paint.
>(*) Coat with an enamel clearcoat paint.

(*)- You can use a gloss enamel paint to forgo the need for a clearcoat.

any paint that will stick to glass would work

exactly what I've done and it has worked flawlessly

use black stickers dude.

black paint makes some of the black detail on my fishies lose definition. on an opposite note, what's a good thing to use to get RID of black paint from an aquarium without destroying the seals?

carefull use of razor blades...

I used just water base paint I think it was interior, I used a roller to apply it, the only thing, I used a lite blue color, I had to put almost 5 coats on so you couldn't see ant light pass threw. for the pastic, I would try acrylic paint. it drys in like 15 minuts, and it comes in all sorts of colors. you can buy that stuff at a arts and craft store, or look on line, I found a company on the web that was selling it cheap. like 14 bucks I think for a gallon...
