Hi, i dont have aquarium salt right now, i was going to buy today but the shop was closed, my jaguar is sick, i would like to know if i can use kitchen salt or whatever you call it!
Please reply me assap

You can use certain types of kitchen salt. It has to be sea salt flakes or large crystals NOT the fine powdered salt. Thsi is due to an anticaking agent that is added to fine table salt.

Look for salt that is dried due to the sun, it should be pure, check the ingredients it should be 100% salt with no additives and you are good to go.

Kosher salt from the grocery store will work .... like Boz said, look for "pure salt" on the label somewhere.

and Location: "Mauritius" ? ....... I think you win "member living in coolest most remote place" award. lol

Yes - regular NaCl (table salt) will work - iodized or not (the iodized salt will kill my fish rumor has long since been found to be a myth)...

You can also get the big bags of salt (for water conditioners) at the hardware store.

^ Agreed.

Regular Iodized salt contains such a small amount of iodine it poses no danger to your fish (I regularly use iodine as an anti-bacterial treatment for open wounds sores etc.) I would be more concerned with the yellow prussiate of soda (sodium ferrocyanide) added as an anti-caking agent. When yellow prussiate of soda is exposed to direct sunlight, it generates hydrogen cyanide, which is considered highly toxic to fish. However for this to even be a major concern the amount of salt added would have to be extream and the tank would have to be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. As a treatment for Ich, minor wounds, stress reief or a salt dip Iodized table salt is safe to use. If you have the option of using aquarium salt pure NaCi with no additional additives by all means do so but if in an emergency situation don't fear the table salt in your kitchen, use it.
