ich broke out in my tank and i read to use salt. i read in the sticky all about ich that table salt will not harm my fish unless i put too much. i have a pictus catfish, common pleco, jack dempsey, firemouth, pacu, and a jaguar. my catfish is completely covered and is about to die so treatment has to be fast. so can i use table salt instead of aquarium salt and how much?

"Are the additives in table salt harmful in aquariums or ponds?
The short answer is “no”. Neither the small percentage of iodides nor the anti-caking additives can be considered to be dangerous when the salt is used in ponds or aquariums. There is no valid reason to use only non-iodized salt yet this is always a hot topic for discussion and argument among aquarium hobbyists. In reality, the minuscule amount of iodide that would end up in a treated pond or aquarium is likely to be beneficial (as a potential source of essential iodine for both certain plants and animals) and certainly not harmful. Fishes can suffer from goiter (= iodine deficiency) also."

dont use table salt it has iodine witch could kill all your fish

This is a myth. I have used table salt plenty of times on many fish, but for those worry worts they do make aquarium salt.

With my experience this is what I have found to be the best way to treat ich. DO a big water change, Clean filters, Dose non-iodine table salt, Raise temp to 79-80ish range, Take out all the gravel and submerge in boiling water with high amounts of salt. Keep doing large water changes in the tank and dosing salt. To re-ensure the eggs are gone, repeat another dose of salt and boiling water to your substrate. Dramatically increasing the temp of your water will speed up the stages of ichs life and cut down on the amount of offspring.
