Can I use this sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't see why not. They say it's good for ponds and aquariums. just rinse well. I used a 5 gal. bucket filled it half way with sand and ran water in it untill stuff stopped floting and water was clear (You may already know this).:D GL

the home depot sand works just fine.. only issue with it is that its usuially a fine grain which stays suspended longer

Hummm...that is weird...It works for some but not others. It is commercial sand. It says for use under walkways and stuff like that. It also says ok for aquariums.

if it says it's aquarium safe I don't see why not. I expect that it would be a thicker grain than Play sand. Please post pics and your thoughts on it when the project is done!

It should be fine. You will just have to rinse well to get the lighter particles out. and give it time to settle.

Personally I prefer pool filter sand. Its heavier, easier to clean, you dont have to rinse as much. Only drawback is it is slightly more expensive.

pool filter sand (get it from the pool supply store) averages $5-$10 for a 50lb bag..
