I don't have much knowledge about plants, but I was always trying to get some plants for my tank, but they would all die in a week or two. I now know that it takes a lot of stuff for it to work. However my fish keep me busy enough and I don't want to spend more time and money on the plants. So I am wondering if there is a way to put some plants and which plants would b hardy enough to plant in a fish tank without CO2 injection and a bunch of other equipment? I usually have gravel on the bottom of the tank and my light is pretty strong and the tank gets some daylight during the day. Also if my conditions can't work what would b the minimum amount of changes I would need to do to have some plants growing in there.
Thanks for ur help in advance

duckweed, java fern, java moss, pothos...what is your lighting like? typical for any green to grow it need ights, and most of the folks here are surprised if anything green stays in their tank for much more than a week (myself included)

As far as what kind of light -- did you know the wattage? K rating? IMO, lighting on planted tanks is the most confusing part when starting out. Try this: http://www.rexgrigg.com/light.html - a pretty good starting point as far as reading goes.

Direct sunlight for planted tank = bad. You will get algae and your plants will die anyways. Substrate is an important part of growing plants, but it really depends on the plants. Some will grow just fine in substrate with no nutrients and others will die within 2 weeks.

I go to Michael's craft store, those plants always stay green :)plant need at minimum 1 wpg, but again, I wouldn't trust me if I were you.
