can a jack dempsey live with a jaguar? my jack is bigger at 6 inches but now the jaguar has hit a growth spurt and is the same length but not as thick yet. i've noticed jaguar becoming more aggressive... is the jaguar going to be bigger than the jack when it reaches full size? what is the adult size of each of these fish? do you guys anticipate a problem. tank size is 100G. Thanks.

possible, can happen.
depends on the fish
for now i say it should work
add dithers

Jags get to be 16-18 inches if male
Jack around 9-10 inches if male
The jag will eventually own the jack.
My advice is to separate them eventually.

jack 8"-10", jaguar 18" male, approx 14" female.
you don't measure a fish's energy by length, but width(age) as well xD.
a 6" jack should be tougher than a 6" jag.

Keep a divider handy.A 100gal isn't that large when they get bigger but it may work. I have a Jd in a 135 with some guys that are more agressive than your average jag and he has always held his own.

Unfortunately the best answer is maybe. You will hear success stories and horror stories, not just with Jag, JD combinations either. Given a big enough tank your chances of success increase considerably. JD’s for the most part are not overly aggressive so if you have a tolerant Jag they could live together. The best advice would be plan for the worst and hope for the best, no one can say yes it will work or no it wouldn’t work. It depends on the disposition of the individual fish in question. Good luck with them.

jags in captivity seldom reach 16 inches let alone 18 inches. ive seen some of the largest jags around here and there 15 and 16 inches tops. most are 12-14. but yes the jag would be bigger then the jd but i dont think it would harass it to death as long as the jd stays of his territory.

I have a 7" jd with a roughly same size jag and they don't ever bother each other. There's many more fish in the tank though too. they stay at opposite ends of the tank.
