HI
I just got a lmb about 6":nilly: and I have him in my pond for now (it's a private unconnected pond) and my question was do u guys think he could survive over winer or should I bring him in? I live in Southwestern Ontario so the coldest it gets is 0f and the pond is 30" deep but i've never seen it freeze solid to the bottom.
Thanx

Yeah better take it in to be safe

depends on the fish 2 of my bass I could keep with anything the other bothers everyone and everything

Similar sized fish will become a meal, eventually - or constant combatants. My guess on compatability for a largemouth is only other largemouth.

Overwintering? No, not unless you have a reatively deep pond with some means of keeping a large area of the surface ice free. Even then its a gamble.

Nice fish though, my favorite.

I think he can survive the winter, ive seen youtube videos of people catching bass on ice fishing. but on the other hand i dont know if he will survive..

well at 30" i dont think your pond will freeze all the way cuz thats what mine is and it has never froze to the bottom...buuuut if you do bring him him he may no be ok unless the cichlids are at least the same size as him...think about how big a large mouth mouth is and im sure we all know they can take down fish almost as big as them

The freeze line there is probably at least 24" and thats not gonna be your only problem, once the top layer freezes there will be no way to replenish Oxygen and the fish will expire. Take him in or heat the pond.
