Can male Cubans have black dorsal?

Seems like some consider black dorsal as a female trait when I can see many pictures of males with them.


Here are my two Cubans. They are 8-9cm. What do you guys think?

Both are classic females.

Agree with fwprawn, both are females, not only by the dorsal pigment but general body markings, and torpedo shape. Sometimes spawning will blur differences making males darken, but not under normal circumstances.
Compare my male and female shape, profile and markings.

Ok, I have 3 that look like the first pic and about 3 inches. I have one that's all grayish and only 1.5 inches., and hides in the top corner all day. May be he is a male?
