Just wanted to know if marbles motoro pup can go from dark pup to lighter tone as they grow? Was curious to know what people look for when they select a pup. I.E. markings, size of spots, marbling? How do you tell quality?

Im curious because i ran across this thread:

In my opinion the first thing to look at is the spots. How many on one vs the other. Spots never multiple what you see is what you get.

Motoro's are on of the easiest rays to manipulate there skin tone, Light or dark substrate can totally change there appearance.

+1 on the substrate it makes a world of difference.

That ray did NOT stay like that.... She went dark again. Those changes took place over the first few years of her life. Here's a pic from a few years after she peaked. (November 2010) :(

Seems to me most are just like people, and not fine booze, seem to peak then go down hill, not get better with age. There's exemptions like Aquaman's Marbles and I'm sure others but most people don't keep them long enough to understand how they change.

I think it has to do with water quality and food as well, but substrate definitely has an impact on it.

I still say look at the parents when buying a pup. Does that mean that's what they'll look like? Nope, but it usually means they'll look at least that good or even better..... ;)

DB,

Thanks for the input on that marble. It really darken. Besides parents, when you select pups what do you look for ? Just want to get different perspective from different members.

In my opinion its all preference..... There's too many different styles to decide on a few criteria to judge them. It's all on an individual basis..... lol

Some like light base, some like purple in the dots, some like ones that look like Pearls, there's ones with just a few dots and lots of black lines, ones that have smeared spots that look like they're burning, Lots of big dots with little marbling, and ones that are just "different". :screwy:

It may end up coming down to environmental factors that make not as nice ones nicer then really nice ones kept in poor conditions.....

They may end up being like lottery tickets and all you do is pick one and hope for the best. Lots of ugly ducklings out there, and situations just the opposite, It's what makes Marbles fun..... Nobody knows, just get whatever floats your boat, cause what you like mite not what be what everyone else likes, but it's your ray, not theirs.... :naughty:

I was the original owner of that particular ray. She was wild caught and about 8" when I bought her. No telling what she looked like as a pup. In the first picture, you wouldn't know she was a marble. I think substrate color made a big difference.
