Will my wooden floor bored joists beable to hold a 4x2x2 filled with water? im not sure on the size of the joists i think they are 2x6" correct me if im wrong (all uk people) its going to be aprox 950lbs, it will be against an outside load baring wall but will be in the centre of the wall, it will be running across the joists, with aproximatly 3 joists under maybe 4 (depending on how far apart they are i belive they are 13-14" apart). So if there are any structual enginers on here i would apreciate your help, BTW i have another 120g under the stairs but that is in the courner against 2 loadbaring walls, but just to be sure i wanna as you guys thanks.

I'm a union carepenter, and do a lot of oddball jobs on the weekends....2x4 joist, maybe??>>Three 2x6 will, should hold up 900+lbs....I've seen a 200g(7ftx2x2) done with 16o.c. 2x4's....

I'd hire a structural eng to look over the sub floor, to make sure it's all sound and give you his advice.

75 gallons generaly are OK, but as with all big tanks (over 55 gals) there is a risk, and it's best to have a professional give the OK after an inspection.

Alot of people have put huge tanks on floors with no problems, but every home is different, just because Bob down the road has had a 150 gal on his floor for 10 years dosn't mean yours will hold.

I'd recommend getting insurance if you don't have it also, and make sure you get it in writing that it will cover a tank breaking or falling through the floor. They may even cover the cost of replacing the tank and equipment depending on the company.

Here's a good read if you have some time.

I have 2 - 55 gallons, 1 30 gallon, and 1 20 gallon tanks on the 2nd floor of my older home, and they are fine. They have all been set up for a year.:cool-1:

Yes but they are spread out over a larger surface area than 4x2 ;), iv been told (by rallysman) that my floor will hold my tank if they are 2x6s, but he was not sure if they will hold if they are 2x4s does any one have any other info on whether 2x4s will hold 1250lbs?

don't take chances, be shure before... :character0004:
