Hello Guys,
So I have a 230 gallon tank and i would love to put my bichirs in there with some rays but I'm not sure if this would work.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hopefully you have a big enough bichir! My opinion and I don't know cause I don't own a ray, is that if it hovers over your bichir and the ray feels its a worm, bye bye fishywishy!

I have seen people who have mixed large bichirs with rays and had apparent success so I do not see a problem with it unless your bichir grabs the rays' disc, and sizes are similar? Although just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done.

I have a large ornate in my big tank with 4 10"+ rays. In one of my growout tanks I have an albino senegal and a delhezi. They all get along very well and I have not run into any problems. However every fish has its own personality and temperament so there is always a chance it may not work out.

My bichirs are between 5-6 inches long now and I would definitely get the ray a little bigger than the bichir just to be safe.
I don't know how fast rays can grow.
Also how open does the bottom of the tank need to be? I'm planning on putting large plants in and drift wood.

Definitely possible cause I'm running the same set up now.

I have 2 Motoros and 4 Bichirs as well as other fishes.

It's just a matter of matching their sizes.

My buddy had a retic for years with some Senegals. Came home one day to a ray with no eyes. The ray had to be put down.

I had a big Ornate in my pond with rays and it would latch on to disks at feeding time.

Yet no issues mixing Aimara or MBU with rays........

Every situation is different.
