I want to buy a nice shoal of red hooks and keep them with datnoids. I want to add a bunch of java ferns, java moss and anubias to the tank. If I feed the red hooks a lot of algae flakes, will that discourage them from eating up all my plants? I tried to get the toughest and nastiest tasting plants to put in so they won't eat them all up. Will that work, or are red hooks going to eat up all my plants no matter what?

You might have better luck training them to sit, fetch, roll over, and play dead first... They are going to eat your plants my friend..

No.. its part of their diet and they will munch on them no matter what.

Some say that anubias will work because of a bitter taste. Mine ate anubias, though.

Ive never seen any fish eat java moss....

Red Hooks will eat just about any vegetation you put in there. Dude its like asking a baby not to cry. It's what they do! Also asking a cichlid notto be territorial.
