I have a blue phantom pleco.. Just got him about a month ago.

He's eating fine, there's nothing in the tank that could eat him.. but I noticed there are parts on him where his skin is transparent, and I can see his bones.

It's not raw, or an open sore either.

He is in a community tank.

Did he get up against the heater and get burned maybe? That's crazy looking!

See, that's what I thought too, but the heaters are too high up, and they don't get hot on the outside so the fish can't get burnt.

And if it was a scrape, it would be raw or irritated.

It's like he's got clear skin.

that might get infected

How so? It's not open.

Strange. My gut instinct would say heater burn but it would be look more like a sore and you say it's not open or irritated. Clear skin. Weird.

Best thing you can do is keep the diet and water quality high and observe. Watch and wait. Good luck.

Yeah. He's eating and acting normal.

I first thought another pleco was bothering him but again its not an open wound. Its.just like he's losing his coloration.

Got to be a heaterburn. Do lots of water changes and feed him asparagus so he can regrow that skin quickly.

I thought it would be heater burn, but I don't see how it could be, as my eel curls himself around the heater, and he's fine.

Not to mention my gold nugget sits right behind the other heater in the tank and he's got no sign of burn.
