Can small gars be kept with small arowanas?

Look at the gar tankmates thread. Some people have had success with Florida gar with silver aros.

I've had success with a Silver Aro which was about 1ft. and the Florida Gar was about 10 inches. Personally wouldn't mix a Gator Gar with any Aro.

Alligator gars get to ten feet..
NO THEY CAN'T... Yeah, there has been unofficial reports a hundred years ago of them getting that big, so far the biggest one is just over 8 feet. On the Trinity river (best spot for 'gator gars in the world), alligator gars reach 5 foot in 12 years, and then only grow a half inch every year after that. Keep in mind that their growth is going to be much delayed in an aquarium as well, so I'd say five foot would be a monster alligator gar in captivity. If anyone out there knows of an alligator gar that grew bigger than that in captivity (excluding ones that were captured full size), let me know.

Okay well tell him to keep this with his arowanna than. The guy shot it and said it was 400 pounds. Also I have no idea why there are so many "people" out there that want kill the last of the very few remaining great animals on this planet.

Yeah the guy said they had seen bigger ones too. Honestly it's really depressing though alligator gar are in a lot of trouble in this country and it takes decades for them to get that big. If you want to hunt fish go shoot some of those jumping carp everyones freaking out about.

No matter if they get to 5 or 10 feet, the things get massive. They are best left to indoor or outdoor ponds. Or a huge tank.
