HI there my frind had a tank wich he has had a snail in for about a year or so and it was doing fine until he aded a trapdoor snail in the tank. the next mornign they were both dead. water perametersd are fine and the trapdoor was moving around the first nite. any ideaas what happed? we wer wonderign if there could ahve been some sort if diseas it may have spread to hes previous snail. were jsut curious why the one that was in there previous would die aswell. its a 45g tank with a large community of fish aswell. thank you.

Is this trapdoor snail a wild caught specimen or captive bred? Where did your friend get it? What test kit did you use to test the water? What exactly are the water parameters? There are very little number of parasites that can sicken the snails. Mostly, the parasites just use the snails as vectors of transmission for birds, humans and fish (very rare for it to happen).

Hi there, I dont kno if the trapdoor was wild or not it was purchased at a lfs. we test it at the lfs with a api tst kit, ammonia 0/nitrite 0/ nitrate 10 ppm/ pH 7.0 . and the porevious snail was in there for over a year and it died along with the new one by the next morning. i kno snails need a bit of hardness in the water to get calcium for their shell but i jsut find it funny it would die the next day. thnaks for the reply.

It seems coincidental to me. Have the store test their water for copper traces. How long have they kept their stock of snails?
