none, from personal experaince.. a cichlid.. is a cichlid.. is a cichlid... I tried johanna's but once they matured , about 6 monthes ish.. they started harsssing my gar and eels.

None pikes hate other elongated species, its why I decided against one. I had one before that killed a tiretrack eel and a clown knife.
also there is a pike cichlid forum that would probably be a better place to ask questions in. not sure whats going on lately but General is for subjects that are aquarium related that don't fit into the other sections

I've kept pikes and gars together no problem. You'll want to go with a Saxatilis group pike like sveni, saxatilis, lepidota, anthurus, frenata, and so on. They are less aggressive, and less expensive.

Some of the Lugubris group pikes will work as well, just stay away from the more aggressive ones like lenticulata. Tank size will help as well.

Allright thanks peanut!!!!
Tank size is 150g if that's not enough I can switch them with one of my fahaka's and put the puffer in the 150 and gar, pike in a 220g??

I wouldn't put gar with pikes. Ask in the gar forum too. I don't doubt Jeramy's experience but I wouldn't risk it long-term.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this will probably not be a long, long term thing, since gar will get quite large, regardless of species, and have the potential of eventually eating the pikes.

Crenicichla vittata, Crenicichla cincta, Crenicichla marmorata, Crenicichla lenticulata, and Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela are some of the larger growing pikes, and are your best bet for success. Honestly, the bigger the tank, the better the success.

Just remember pikes ARE aggressive, so predicting what they will do is not always accurate.

I don't have any gar experience, but I do have a little pike experience, I currently have a lenticulata, beautiful fish, but it's true that they hate elongated fish. The only elongated fish it has so far been fine with are my bichirs. But it killed another pike and the guy I got it from said it killed his barracudas.

I have kept Pikes and gars together for years with out any issues. My pikes were Marmorata, Lenticulata, Strigata and Cincta and the gars were spotted and florida. Yes its a big tank but even in smaller tanks both have been fine with each other in my experience.
