Okay I've got two rare peacock bass coming to me on Thursday and I'd like to get some input on what is the best means of acclimation? My normal routine is float the bag for 30 minutes and add a cup of water from my aquarium to the bag they're in every 15 minutes or so. I'm thinking there is probably a better method than this and would appreciate if you guys might help clue me in.

I've done it similar to the way you describe mostly but I usually dont pour any tank water in the bag.I open the bag and net them out and into the the tank. There are more elaborate methods that I have done with salt water though.

How long will they have been in the bag (aprox.). What size fish?

there is the drip method, drs foster and smith website has the details on that. i usually dump the fish and water they are in into a clean 2 gallon bucket, and every 10 mins i pour a half of cup of the water they will go into into the bucket and do that every 10 mins for an hour. here is the link for the drip method http://www.liveaquaria.com/PIC/article.cfm?aid=157

I have rarely brought home a fish that approaches 12 inches and I float the bag for fifteen or twenty minutes to get the temps close.

They'll be shipped overnight, not sure exactly how long they'll be in the bag, let's assume 24 hours or less and size is around 4"

If they are packed properly they will have ample oxygen and warmth.I've had fish shipped from the west coast arrive and they were not even pumping their gills when I picked up the bags to inspect them. They were under six inches and that may be a factor in their waste production and oxygen usage.

I understand, I've ordered fish several times I just don't want to shock them or drop them in my tank too soon. I see other members on the board acclimating via the drip method so I think that's the method I'm going to use. I'll be off work the entire day so time won't be a factor and I'd rather be safe than sorry!

I usually do the fast drip method. Float the back for about 15mins then empty the bag into a bucket/container. Take some air tubing and run it from the main tank down to the bucket/container and start to syphon the water from the main tank in to the bucket. Once the water starts tie a knot in to the tubing to control the flow of water. I usually do it a pretty fast drip, and let it drip for about 30-45 or when the water in the bucket/container doubles. But thats it. You can find man discussions about it if you would like to do a search

So youve got the Azul set to arrive, which type is the other bass?
