I found this catfish at the LFS and was wondering if anyone could help ID it. They say it's a RTC, but I'm not sure. Just wanting to know what I'm getting myself into.

tsn. tiger shovelnose catfish. however, it could be a hybrid rtc/tsn cuz those are pretty common too, but i think its probably just a tsn. just be careful cuz they get huge like rtc's so ur gonna need a pond eventually

I knew getting into raising catfish that I would need a massive tank or indoor pond. That's not going to be a problem. I just want to know exactly what it is, because I've looked and looked, but I can't really find any pictures of anything similar. It's got the brown back, spots, and white belly of a red tail, but it's not as.... round... as they are.

ya it could be a hybrid tsnxrtc then. imo they look a little more similar to the rtc's but kinda have the shovelnose. either way they are monsters haha. ya u might wanna go the pond route cuz a tank to house one of them would be hard to come across hahaha

A person can build a tank by doing a moderate amount of research into the products being used, and with a small amount of engineering knowledge.

A side shot would be nice for a positive id. The paterning looks more rtcxtsn than just tsn as it's spots rather than stripes. But the the lack of visible red on the fins or tail in that photo makes it look different to other small hybrids i've seen so maybe it's ***xtsn. Very pretty little fish anyway, if you're preped for big cats and it's good value then give it a go and see what it turns into.
