so i was cleaning the front of my tank a little bit from the inside and i left the top off for like 10 minutes and, i guess my oscar decided to make a run for it. he jumps out and swipes the side of a drawer. luckily, i managed to catch him before he smacked the floor but, he has a little color damage on the left side of his body and gill. will his color eventually come back or is he doomed to have scars for the rest of his life?

sorry, i'm a beginner with big fish but, i'd appreciate an answer.

Out of curiosity, how big is the tank?

I would throw a bit of aquarium salt in with him and watch him closely the next few days.

He may or may not heal completely, hard to say without seeing the fish. Time will tell.

i'll give it a try, thanks alot for the tip. (:

as for the tank it's a 150 gallons. it's just the oscar a silver aro and a senegal bichir as of now.

Can you post a pic, we will be able to tell better if it will heal completely.

Usually scrapes and other white marks will heal, but if a scale comes out completely they don't always grow back (depending on the fish, not sure about Oscars0.

Agreed.

Also it may take some time to completely heal.

from the looks of it, it's only white marks. scales and everything seem to be in tact and fine.

i'll try to post a picture as soon as i get a hold of a camera that doesn't suck haha

it's nothing major, i just wanted to know if there was anything i could do to speed up the healing process. thanks guys.

I've experienced similar color fading during water changes, but the color comes back. I dont know if it is the same case in your situation.
