Have you tested your water?
No
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
What percentage of water do you change?
41-50%
How frequently do you change your water?
Every week
If I do not change my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be recommended to do a water change, and water changes are critical for preventing future freshwater health problems.
Hi guys,

2 of my severums have something on them (pictured below) can anyone help identify?
Also my red shoulder has a tiny dot on his head as well and I'm worried about HITH.
I'm sorry the pictures are not great...
Still eating and acting normal, I do water changes weekly... Can check parameters tomorrow.

Could be lymphocystis. The gold severum looks like a bit of fungus.

do you think the small white dot on the red shoulder is the beginning of HITH?
how does one treat for lymphocytosis ?

Could be the beginning of hith. Check ur ph. It’s viral and no treatment. Keep water clean.

Here is some severum catch location data.

This is the type water they have evolved to live in.
If your tap water parameters are far different, having nitrates in the 20-40 in combination with out of the norm parameter ranges for severums sometimes leads to chronic problems (bacterial (HITH)and viral diseases (lymphosystus)seem to be common because severum have not developed immunity to certain bacteria species), so upping your water change schedule to bring nitrate down below 10ppm might help.
If your tap water in hard and/or mineral rich mixing rain water, RO or DI might also help.
Adding anti-bacterial tannins, might also help.
